| This is Professor Fujio Masuoka, inventor of flash memory technology. He is seen here with a model of a silicon atom at his lab at Tohoku University in Sendai City. Masuoka invented flash memory in 1980 when working for Toshiba. But it was not until 1984 that his findings were unveiled. Masuoka left Toshiba in 1994 to join the faculty of Tohoku University. Flash memory is now one of the most widely used digital storage technologies for consumer electronics. |
